Writing Core

Nexum’s writing surface is a live Markdown editor. You type source Markdown; Nexum renders structure, emphasis, links, and embeds while you work. When the caret sits inside a block - a heading, a callout, a code fence - Nexum shows the raw source for that block so editing stays precise.

Live Markdown: a heading, a list, a ==highlight==, a > [!TIP] callout, then [[ to open note suggestions. Click inside a block to edit its source.

Callouts (alerts)

GitHub-style callouts on the first line of a quote:

> [!TIP]
> Capture the idea first. Organize it later.

Supported kinds:

Marker Title
[!NOTE] Note
[!TIP] Tip
[!IMPORTANT] Important
[!WARNING] Warning
[!CAUTION] Caution
[!INFO] Info
[!SUCCESS] Success
[!EXAMPLE] Example
[!AnythingElse] Custom title from the label

Shortcut form: > !TIP (letters after !).

Blank > lines inside a quote keep visual spacing. Headings inside quotes (for example > ## Player Investigation) render as headings.

[[Note Name]]
[[Note Name|Shown label]]
[[Note Name#Heading]]
![[Note Name]]
  • Type [[ to open suggestions
  • Click an unresolved note link to create and open that note
  • Place the caret on a missing note link to see: This note is not created yet. Click to create.

Display References as Buttons (Preferences → Notes) switches wiki links between compact chips and inline icon + text.

Task and Unity wiki forms

[[task:boardId/cardId|Ticket title]]
![[task:boardId/cardId|Ticket title]]
[[unity:…|Alias]]
![[unity:…#adv|Alias]]

Unity embeds can use #adv / #advanced for the expanded embed UI. Prefer creating these through drag-and-drop and pickers when possible - Nexum fills the stable identity for you.

Code blocks

Fenced blocks support language tags. Syntax highlighting includes:

  • C# (csharp, cs, c#) via Roslyn
  • JSON, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, SQL
  • XML / HTML / USS / UXML
  • YAML / TOML / INI-style
  • Shader / HLSL / GLSL / CGINC

Code font and token colors are configurable under Preferences → Appearance.

Special fence language nexum-console stores captured Unity Console rows. See Unity Console.

Live editing habits

  • Click to place the caret; scroll stays put while you click
  • Triple-click selects a line; double-click selects a word
  • Context menu on the note: Cut, Copy, Paste, Select All, path helpers, Reference a Task…, Properties
  • Toast feedback appears for actions like copying a code block

Page layout

Preferences → Notes → Page margin controls left/right padding of the writing column (default 48px, range 16–160). Collapsing Files gives the page more horizontal room.
