Getting Started¶
Nexum opens as an Editor window: your notes workspace, the Files explorer, and a writing or board surface. The goal of the first session is simple: write something, link something, attach a Unity object.
Get Nexum from the Asset Store¶
Nexum is a Unity Editor tool. Start from the listing:
Get Nexum on the Unity Asset Store
- Open the Nexum page on the Unity Asset Store.
- Add it to your assets (or buy it, if you do not already own it).
- In Unity, open Package Manager, switch to My Assets, find Nexum, and Import.
When the import finishes, Nexum is available from the Unity menu bar. In Package Manager, stay on My Assets, select Nexum, and use Import in the package detail pane.
Open Nexum¶
In Unity, click Tools in the menu bar, then DivinityCodes → Nexum. The window opens on Welcome.md, with the Files sidebar on the left.
Tools → DivinityCodes → Nexum
The product walkthrough shows that first window in motion, then notes, boards, annotations, and capture.
First launch¶
When you open Nexum with no restored tabs, it seeds and opens Welcome.md - an onboarding note that introduces writing, links, Unity context, Kanban, Annotations, and Daily Notes.
You can edit Welcome like any other note. After a full workspace reset from Storage Diagnostics, Welcome is recreated from the packaged template and opened again.
Quick Start¶
If you open a blank tab (New Tab), Nexum shows Quick Start instead of an empty editor:
| Action | What it does | Default shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| Create New Note | Creates a Markdown note | Cmd+N / Ctrl+N |
| Create Kanban Board | Creates a .kanban board |
Cmd+Shift+N / Ctrl+Shift+N |
| Go to File | Opens the file switcher | Cmd+F / Ctrl+F (also Cmd+O / Ctrl+O) |
| Close | Closes the blank tab | n/a |
Press Escape to close a blank New Tab when it is active.
Your first five minutes¶
Write something¶
Open Welcome, or create a note with File → New Note / Quick Start.
# Player spawn notes
The spawn point feels off after the last scene change.
==Check Health on respawn.==
Nexum renders Markdown live while you write.
Link another note¶
Type [[ anywhere. Nexum opens suggestions. Pick a note, or finish a name and leave a ghost link.
Clicking a link to a note that does not exist yet creates and opens it.
Bring Unity in¶
Drag a Prefab, GameObject, Material, or other Unity object onto the note. Choose reference or embed. The project context stays attached to the writing.
Open a board¶
File → New Kanban Board, or Quick Start → Create Kanban Board. Add a column, then a ticket. Attach the note or a Unity object as context when you are ready.
Look around the chrome¶
Top bar: Nexum / File / Edit / View / Help, plus Daily Notes, Annotations, and the studio Roadmap.
Left: FILES explorer. Center: note or board. When needed: Properties, inspector, and overlays.
Where your files live¶
By default, Nexum uses the Notes folder next to the Nexum install (ToolLocation/Notes).
Imported media defaults to a Resources folder inside that notes workspace. Both locations can be changed in Nexum → Preferences… → Workspace.
Session restore
When you close Nexum, open tab paths are remembered. Reopening restores those tabs and focuses the last active document. If nothing is restored, Welcome is opened.
